An "Outstanding" School

Welcome to Shireland Collegiate Academy. Having opened as an Academy in 2007, we are extremely proud of the progress everyone has made since then and the Academy is rightly proud to be considered to be Outstanding by OfSTED in the last inspection.

Our commitment to raising the standards for our students whilst also serving our families and wider community has always been our main focus. There has been education on our campus for over a hundred years and this blend of tradition with innovation is what makes Shireland Collegiate Academy significantly different.

At Shireland we strongly believe in the merits of a "Whole Education" and believe all young people should have access to a fully rounded education.

An education which:

  • develops a range of competencies and qualities which enable our students to acquire the knowledge and qualifications that they will need for the future

  • makes learning relevant and engaging for our students and places them at the centre of their own learning

  • uses technology to enable our students to make greater progress by developing and applying their digital literacy

  • recognises that learning takes place in various settings, not just the classroom and that our students are not only members of our academy community but that they need to be active members of our local community
  • Here at Shireland we have 900, 11 to 16 year old students on roll with an intake of 180 in each year group and a Post 16 centre with just over 200 students, though this is increasing annually.

We expect our students to work independently and to work with others, to have enthusiasm for their studies but to have resilience when things do not quite go to plan and to care for themselves and for others – and they do!
